UCLA IS Associates presents Distinguished Executive Leadership Award

Los Angeles - The IS Associates, sponsored by the UCLA Office of Information Technology, will honor Scott McGregor, president and chief executive officer of Broadcom Corp., with the 2013 IS Associates Executive Leadership Award. Bestowed each year by Southern California’s leading group of information systems and information technology executives, the IS Associates Executive Leadership Award recognizes those who excel at leading their companies while expanding and enhancing use of information technology.
The award will be presented to McGregor at the IS Associates Executive Leadership Award Dinner on Dec. 5 at the UCLA Faculty Center.
“Information technology is a critical tool for business success and is, of course, a science unto itself,” said Jim Davis, vice chair of the IS Associates board, vice provost for information technology at UCLA and professor at the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science. “Scott McGregor and Broadcom have shown a consistent dedication to information technology as an expanding and ever-changing field as well as the foundation of the company.”
About Scott McGregor
McGregor joined Broadcom, a global leader in semiconductor solutions for wired and wireless communications, in 2005. He has overseen the expansion of the company from 3,250 employees to more than 11,500, as well as growth in revenue from $2.4 billion in 2005 to more than $8 billion in 2012. Company officials estimate that 99.98% of all Internet communication crosses at least one Broadcom chip.
Information technology and engineering innovation are keys to the company’s success on every level, from R & D to market share. Broadcom utilizes the IT expertise of its employees, more than three-quarters of whom are engineers, to enable collaboration, efficiency and innovation across its more than 40 offices located in 24 countries around the world.
Before joining Broadcom, McGregor worked for seven years at Philips Semiconductors (now NXP Semiconductors), rising to the positions of president and chief executive. He previously held senior positions at open-systems software firm Santa Cruz Operation, Inc., Digital Equipment Corp. (now part of Hewlett-Packard Co.) and Microsoft, where he was development team leader for the original version of Microsoft Windows.
McGregor, who is also president of the Broadcom Foundation, earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and master’s degree in computer science and computer engineering from Stanford University.
